8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro Review

Verdict

8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro serves quite a huge selection of Taiwanese food. Fried chicken was served fresh with a thick chilli sauce that packs some heat. Scallion pancake was fragrant and crispy and the chilli added another dimension of flavour to it. Braised pork belly tastes good but the meat was overly braised. Mee Sua was smooth and slimy.

Things I like

  • Price was reasonable
  • Meals were served fresh and hot
  • Variety of Taiwanese food

Nitpicking

  • Braised pork could use a little more chunky tenderise meat

To kicks things off, we order their salted chicken ($7). The chicken was not too salty and it was cooked fresh. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender. The chilli sauce packs a punch of heat and has a thick texture to it.

8 Degrees Scallion Pancake

8 Degrees’ scallion pancake ($5.20) was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. It comes with a fragrance of chilli oil which goes very well with the pancake.

8 Degrees Pork Belly Rice

Of course, you can’t have Taiwanese food without their famous braised pork belly rice or ” Lu Rou Fan” ($6). The pork was flavourful but it was braised too long which makes the pork overly soft. I would have preferred some chunk of tenderising meat to bite.

8 Degrees Chicken Mee Sua

As a second main course, we order some chicken mee sua ($6).

Do not fret with the intestine here, it tastes like any chicken/pork. The mee sua is covered with a sticky texture

Be sure to add some vinegar to enhance the taste of the dish. The vinegar adds a layer of bitterness to the gamey flavours of the dish.

8 Degrees Lemon Aiyu w Passion Fruit
8 Degrees Lemon Aiyu w Passion Fruit

8 Degrees has many drinks and dessert options such as bubble tea, milk tea, tea, coffee, and many more.

I tried their Coffee Crystal Milk Tea ($3.9) and Lemon Aiyu w Passion Fruit ($4.8).

The Milk tea had a nice and smooth foam on top and coffee crystal below. I would say if you love coffee and tea, this is a drink you should try.

They were generous with their jelly and have a balanced taste of sweetness and sourness. The added passionfruit and the jelly provided an additional layer of texture to the dish.

8 Degrees Service

8 Degrees service was decent, we queue for 10 minutes before getting our table. Food was served within 15 minutes of ordering.
