No.18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow Review

Verdict

Zion Road Fried Kway Teow is one of Singapore’s most raved about fried kway teow hawker stalls. It’s so famous that even our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and MICHELIN Guide give their stamp of approval. The char kway teow is a little moist but not overly wet, not spicy, and packs a punch of flavors. Generous amount of pork lard and egg which fills almost every other bite of kway teow.

Things I like

  • Generous pork lard
  • The texture of kway teow is moist but not overly wet
  • Balance taste of saltiness and sweetness

Nitpicking

  • Fried Kway Teow was not smoking hot when served.
  • Lacks Wok Hei flavor

No. 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow

No. 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow has 3 sizes $5, $6, and $8.

I ordered the $6 portion and it was just nice for me. They use a combination of kway teow and yellow noodle mix with vegetables, egg, Chinese sausage, beansprouts, cockles, and fish cakes.

The cooking style is on the moist side but not overly wet. There is also a little hint of Wok Hei taste to it but nothing beats using real charcoal to cook the kway teow.

Pork lard given was generous which fills up almost every other bite and there was plenty of egg given.

Not sure if I could have added some spice but I did not taste any spice at all. Overall taste was rather balanced with some saltiness and sweetness.

No. 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow Service

Do expect a long wait for such a famous stall. I waited 35 minutes on a weekday dinner before getting served.

Uncle will fry portion by portion which is a good thing to maintain consistency and also to customize what you want and don’t want to be included in your char kway teow.
