Tuan Yuan Pork Ribs Soup Review
Verdict
Tuan Yuan Pork Rib Soup serves one of the best pork ribs soups also known as “Bak Kut Teh” in Tiong Bahru. Their broth here can be customized to add more spiciness by adding more Pepper. I like that they use Sarawak Pepper as it has a more robust flavor and punches. The pork here is tender and moist, especially their Premium Spare Ribs. The Kway Chap here is more on the peppery side with a mild herby flavor. I usually don’t eat Pork Kidney but Tuan Yuan changed my mind about it, it has a solid chewy texture and almost no weird kidney smell or taste that I previously disliked.
Things I like
- Able to customize the spiciness of the soup by adding more Sarawak Pepper.
- Using Sarawak Pepper as it has a more robust flavor and punches
- Tender and moist pork ribs.
- Clean and chewy pork kidney.
Tuan Yuan Food & Price

Tuan Yuan serves more than just their famous pork rib soup or also known as “Bak Kut Teh” in their restaurant. They serve a variety of Chinese food and Kway Chap as well.
For stater, we order their Stir Fried Green Dragon Chives ($12). The vegetables were crunchy, fresh, and with just the right amount of flavoring.

A small but crucial ingredient here is their cut chili which you can get for free upon request.

I usually avoid any kind of intestinal protein but decided to give this Pork Kidney soup ($10) a try. To my surprise, I actually like it. It has almost no taste to it but a nice firm chewy texture to it and it was definitely thoroughly clean and served fresh.

For the main course, we order Tuan Yuan Premium Spare Ribs Soup ($14) which is their signature pork. If you look closely at the picture, you can tell they sprinkle additional Sarawak pepper onto the dish to make it extra spicy. The pork was huge, tender, and moist inside.
Also, if you order their soup with added spice, they will also do the same with the refills.

Next, we also try their normal Pork Rib Soup ($10) with no added spice. You can taste more of the pork soup flavor here which has just the right amount of oil, aroma, and pork flavor. I would say the premium pork rib is quite a step up so I would recommend you to go for that.

No one likes a soggy Dough Stick “You Tiao” ($2.50). I like that Tuan Yuan You Tiao here is freshly fried before serving. It was crunchy outside, and fluffy inside.

You can eat those pork with plain white rice ($1) or Mee Sua ($2.50) here.

Aside from pork rib soup, Tuan Yuan also serves Kway Chap ($9.80). Their Kway here is chewy and thin with a peppery and mild herby taste broth.
Their protein comes with pork stomach, pork skin, pork belly, tau pok, tau kua, and egg.

For drinks, we got their Aiyu Jelly ($3.80). Perfectly balanced sweetness and sourness with a good amount of jelly in it.
Tuan Yuan Service & Ambient
Service here was relatively fast. We were there just before the dinner crowd so the food was served within 15 minutes of ordering.
They have outdoor and indoor, I personally prefer their outdoor at night as you can have more space with less noise.
