Tiong Bahru Yong Tao Hu Review

Verdict

Tiong Bahru Yong Tao Hu has been around since the 60s, that’s like 6 decades of history here. Yong Tao Hu or Yong Tau Foo is a Hakka Chinese dish consisting primarily of tofu filled with ground meat or fish paste. This shop mainly focuses on a healthy version of YTF, its clear broth has a mild to plain taste, and each protein was fresh. I prefer the Laksa version as the curry broth makes the dish a little more tasteful. Also, the shop has a smell that might put you off at first but it quickly blent in after just a few minutes in the shop.

Things I like

  • Fresh ingredients
  • Laksa broth

Could Improve

  • Ventilation of the shop. It has a weird smell initially when entered.
  • The clear broth tastes a little too plain, and could use more flavouring

The noodle comes plain and you can add on their special chili along with their sambal sauce to add some flavoring to it. The protein comes standard in this shop, fish ball, tofu, and stuffed bean curd paste. All protein is fresh and it comes in a bowl of soup that is slightly on the plain side in terms of flavouring.
