Verdict

Chatterbox has been around Singapore for 5 decades serving their world-famous chicken rice and more. There are tons of chicken rice shops in Singapore at way lower price but if you ask me, this is the place for the best chicken rice in Singapore. Their chickens are moist, tender, and have just the right amount of gelatines. The rice here is fluffy, aromatic, and has just the right amount of grease. There are also three sauces given; dark soy sauce, ginger, and chili. Chili here has the right consistency and spice to it while the ginger has a nice gingery kick to it.

Chatterbox Food & Price

Before we start this review, I am well aware that there are other chicken rice shops in Singapore and pricing at a way lower price. I have tried quite a few chicken rice shops and you can see their individual review here. I feel the experience, quality, and overall perfection done on a simple dish.

Chatterbox Mandarin Chicken Rice — Chatterbox Chicken Rice

Chatterbox has three different sizes for their chicken rice; Individual ($25), Half Chicken ($38), and Full Chicken ($72). The image above is their Full Chicken, good for sharing for 4 to 5 pax.

The chicken has great visual presentation, flavourful, moist and tender chicken with the perfect amount of gelatinous. Even the light soy sauce in it provides just the right amount of saltiness to the chicken.

One of the many things I love about Chatterbox is its preparation for individual portions. Every order of their chicken rice comes with a side of fragrant, broth-cooked jasmine rice, warm soup nourished with the pure essence of chicken aromatics, dark soy sauce, minced garlic, and chili.

Their rice here is so aromatic and fluffy and they have just the right amount of grease to it. The chili here has a perfect consistency of thickness and liquid with just the right spice that complements the dish well. The minced garlic provides a hint of gingery note to the chicken.

Chatterbox also serves other local dishes such as this Rojak ($15). It is refreshing and tangy. This rojak is a toss-up of fruits and vegetables in a sweet prawn paste, finished with ground peanuts and deep-fried prawn fritters. I love the mix of soft and crispy texture it provides. Those who love peanuts would love this type of Rojak.

I have been to Chatterbox a few times and I notice I usually come here when there are families, friends, or relatives visiting Singapore asking for the best chicken rice in Singapore. Though I usually only come here for their chicken rice, Chatterbox does serve quite a variety of local dishes such as Mackerel & Crab Otah-Otah ($15), Kampong Nasi Goreng ($18), Lobster Laksa ($34), Char Kway Teow ($24) and many more.

Chatterbox Service & Ambient

The service staff here were friendly. Food was delivered to us within 15 minutes of ordering even though the restaurant was running at 80% occupancy. Book your reservation at their website to reserve a spot at Chatterbox.

Chatterbox recently had a major renovation done to their restaurant. It looks modern, clean, and great layout for good conversation.
