The Sushi Bar is probably my top pick in Singapore for the best value quality Japanese restaurant. I have been here quite a bit and their food is consistently fresh and good. Thick and fresh cut of sashimi, salmon Aburi roll, wagyu don, grilled dried puffer fish, and a pint of their Sapporo beer is my regular goto dish. In short, you are getting one of the best Japanese quality cuts of protein/vegetables for a relatively affordable price.

Uya Japanese Unagi Restaurant at Wheelock serves high-quality and fresh eel. You can’t see them kill the eel but you can peek through a small window outside the restaurant to see them handling a live eel. Uya is known for its Hitsumabushi which is basically a chopped-up eel served with condiments and a broth soup. I never liked eel that much before visiting Uya. The eel has a good crispy layer from the charcoal burn and tender fish inside.

Nanbantei offers authentic slices of yakitori culture. They are also one of the longest-running Japanese yakitori around so which translates into being one of the best Yakitori in Singapore. The restaurant itself has a very cozy and Japanese-decorated woody-style vibe. You can get a front-row seat of your meal prepared before your very eyes and watch the yakitori chefs serve you fresh off the charcoal grill.

Sushi Tei is one of my favorite spots for affordable sushi in Singapore. They serve fresh Japanese at a fairly decent price. Sashimi salad with their signature Sushi Tei dressing is so refreshing. A4 wagyu beef here melts in your mouth. Free flow of ginger, wasabi, and green tea. The sashimi here is fresh and they are generous with its cut.

Fat Cow is one of Singapore’s top Japanese Fine Dining restaurants. They are known for their premium Japanese Wagyu beef and it really will put a wow and smile on your face. The beef has a rich umami flavor and will melt as soon as it touches your mouth. The beef is so tender that you can tear it by using your lip. The Fat Cow rice was addictive and the donburi was bursting with flavors all over.

Tonkichi Takashimaya Singapore, this cozy and casual dining spot is a must for lovers of tonkatsu. They do serve sushi and sashimi for those who want other Japanese cuisines. Having this curry katsu brings me back to the time when I was in Japan having it. Their pork loin has just enough fat in it to offer a rich aroma with a great texture and the curry has just the right consistency with medium spice. The set also comes with rice, miso soup with Japanese pickles, and an unlimited refill of cabbage.

Hakata Ikkousha Ramen is my favorite Japanese ramen shop in Singapore. The broth here is boiled carefully over a long period every day creating the signature thick and creamy texture of Tonkotsu soup. I love their God Fire Ramen here which you can select your own spice level from 1 to 5. Though I love spice, my comfort level for me was level 2. The overall interior and exterior make you feel like you have been temporarily transported to Japan.
