Chicken Rice is one of Singapore’s National dishes and you can find a chicken rice shop in almost every part of Singapore. This makes this lit a hard one to compile but I have been to many Chicken Rice Shops in Singapore and here is my top 3 Best Chicken Rice In Singapore 2023 version.

My Criteria for a good plate of Chicken Rice

Rice – Needs to be a chicken broth cooked rice, fluffy, aromatic, lightly oiled, and served hot.

Chicken – Needs to be tender, juicy, about 1cm wide, mild gelatinous, and with a gingery hint.
Sauce – Needs to have 3 sauces; Chili (Medium thickness consistency with a medium spice), Dark Sauce (Thick and sweet), and Ginger (Minced and fresh)

1. Chatterbox

Chatterbox has been around Singapore for 5 decades serving their world-famous chicken rice and more. There are tons of chicken rice shops in Singapore at a way lower price but if you ask me, this is the place for the best chicken rice in Singapore.

Their chickens are moist, tender, and have just the right amount of gelatines. The rice here is fluffy, aromatic, and has just the right amount of grease. There are also three sauces given; dark soy sauce, ginger, and chili. Chili here has the right consistency and spice to it while the ginger has a nice gingery kick to it.

Chatterbox has three different sizes for their chicken rice; Individual ($25), Half Chicken ($38), and Full Chicken ($72). The image above is their Full Chicken, good for sharing for 4 to 5 pax.

Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice is one of the most popular shops in Tiong Bahru Market. With a standard queue time of 20 minutes during peak hours. The winning dish here is their Hainanese steamed chicken, it is moist and tender. If they can cut their chicken slightly bigger each piece would be great. The Rice here is fluffy and aromatic which leaves you wanting more. Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice comes in two sizes: small ($3.50), and large ($4.50).

3. Boon Tong Kee

Boon Tong Kee Hainanese Steam Chicken — Boon Tong Kee shop

Boon Tong Kee is one of Singapore’s most established chicken rice shops and it serves a variety of Chinese food. From the fragrance of their rice to the moist chicken and they are well-balanced garlic chili, there is no surprise here that it tastes good.

We order a small portion of Hainanese chicken ($6) along with two bowls of chicken rice ($0.80 each). The rice was smooth and had a nice fragrance to it.
