Golden Mile Food Centre

Golden Mile Food Centre was first opened in 1975 and was recently renovated in early 2021 for 3 months. Golden Mile Food Centre is also known as Beach Road Army Market as it is famous for its array of military items being sold on its second floor. All the food stalls are located in the basement and level 1. It is also one of the most reviewed hawker centers in Singapore and houses many famous hawker stalls that offer a variety of local dishes such as curry noodles, Hokkien mee, and wanton mee. Here are my 6 Best Stalls at Golden Mile Food Centre that are worth the hype.

Ah Xiao Teochew Braised Duck is one of the best food here, look at that uniformly cut platter of meats, you don’t see that too often in a hawker center. The duck and pork were tender and juicy. Combining that with their braising sauce just made it even more delicious. You can eat those proteins with rice drenched with braising sauce or just go for the Kueh. Personally, I prefer the Kueh and the protein combination.

Da Po Hainanese Chicken Rice & Curry Chicken Noodle serves up one tender and smooth Hainanese chicken. Paired with their robust curry flavor broth and tangy noodles, it has become one of my favorite curry noodles in Singapore. You can add some additional sambal for extra punches of flavor (Highly recommended).

Hainan Hokkien Mee is probably one of the most popular stalls in the Golden Mile Food Centre. Queue as long as 30 minutes for their famous dry-style Hokkien Mee. The uncle vigorously fries the noodles and thin bee hoon together with intense smoke to give the noodle some wok-hey flavor. Combine that with their sambal which was on the sweet side and some chili paid to give it that additional kick of spice.

Jia Xiang Fried Kway Teow’s carrot cake was sweet, salty, and had a hint of spiciness. I like that their cake was well coated and had a nice solid cake texture to it.

Wen Kang Ji Wanton Noodle stall is one of the most reviewed stalls at Golden Mile. As you can see from their signboard in front of the stalls the number of food reviewers is on display. It definitely lives up to the expectation, with springy and flavourful noodles with a good balance of medium fatty char siew. Their chili elevated the overall dish flavor with a hint of spice and sweetness.

The Original Vadai is yet again another famous stall in Singapore. Serving a variety of Vadai which is basically dough with ingredients such as prawn, onion, cheese, and many more. The original Vadai comes with one prawn and a whole chili. I could just eat the dough by itself as it was crispy and flavourful. The chili just gives it a small kick of spice which really goes well together.
